BLUR is an Experimental Video Editing Workshop, part of the Paadmaan Video Event, offering a practical exploration into video art. This three-hour hands-on session allows participants to creatively experiment with breaking down and reassembling found and original footage. The workshop covers techniques like layered cutting and rapid sequential editing, focusing on visual material, minimalism, and repetition. The works of artists such as Douglas Gordon, Dara Birnbaum, and Martin Arnold will inspire the exploration. Open to all skill levels, the workshop welcomes artists, creators, and students interested in experimental editing. Participants are encouraged to engage in a collective dialogue and explore the boundaries of video art.
The workshop will take place at “ROZENSTRAAT – a rose is a rose is a rose” in Amsterdam on Monday October 7 at 10 to 13. You can register via [Google Form], a limited number of places are available.
Fee: €10 / and €7 for students.
Open to all—no prior knowledge required, suitable for artists, creators, and students. Participants will need access to video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere) on either laptop or phone. A collection of original or found footage will also be helpful. I can provide templates beforehand.
The workshop will be led by Joanne van Halteren, an Amsterdam based visual artist who works mainly with moving images. She earned her BFA from the Rietveld Academie. Joanne’s videos and installations focus on exploring and questioning the connections between marginalized and domesticated territories and species. Her work looks at how various filming, editing, and presentation techniques can bring these subjects out of the margins, with a special emphasis on domestication and the gaze, as well as the domestication of the gaze.
